The Hidden Power of Gravity Points

In media, communication, and storytelling, angle and context are the two foundational lenses used to shape how information is delivered and understood. What is Context?

Context is the background environment that gives information its meaning. It answers the “why” and “how” of a situation. Without context, facts can be easily misinterpreted.

The Framework: It includes history, setting, culture, and timing.

The Purpose: It provides the big-picture reality of a situation.

The Example: Stating “The company lost \(1 million this quarter" lacks context. Adding "during a global economic recession where competitors lost \)5 million” provides the necessary context to understand that the loss is actually a relative success. What is Angle?

An angle (often called a “hook” or perspective) is the specific focus or point of view chosen to tell a story. While a topic can be massive, an angle narrows it down to one sharp, interesting viewpoint.

The Filter: It chooses which facts to highlight and which to downplay.

The Purpose: It makes a story unique, relevant, and engaging to a specific audience.

The Example: If the broad topic is “The rise of electric vehicles,” one angle could be “How EV battery disposal impacts local landfills,” while another angle could be “The thrill of racing electric sports cars.” How They Work Together

Think of context as the entire map, and the angle as the specific path you choose to walk.

Context provides the boundaries: It keeps the story accurate, fair, and grounded in truth.

Angle provides the direction: It prevents the story from being boring or overwhelming by giving it a sharp, purposeful point.

To help apply this to your specific project, tell me a bit more about what you are working on: What is the main topic or subject matter?

What is the medium? (e.g., a news article, business presentation, essay, or marketing campaign)

Once I know your goals, I can help you brainstorm unique angles or map out the required context. Saved time Comprehensive Inappropriate Not working
