Is On/Off Charge Safe? Motherboard Features Explained

To enable the Gigabyte On/Off Charge feature in Windows, you must configure both the motherboard BIOS settings and install the companion Gigabyte software utility. This hardware-software hybrid feature modifies how your motherboard routes power, allowing specific USB ports to deliver higher current and remain powered even when your computer is in standby, hibernation, or completely shut down.

Follow this complete walkthrough to fully activate and configure the feature on your system. Step 1: Configure the Motherboard BIOS Setup

The motherboard must be allowed to distribute power to the USB hubs while the computer is technically turned off. Restart your computer.

Press the Delete or F2 key repeatedly as soon as the screen turns on to enter the BIOS interface.

Switch to Advanced Mode (usually by pressing F7 if you are initially placed in an Easy Mode layout). Navigate to the Settings or Power Management tab. Find the setting labeled ErP (Energy-Related Products). Change the ErP setting to Disabled.

Note: Enabling ErP forces the PC to consume less than 1 watt when turned off, which completely cuts power to all USB ports. Disabling it allows the standby power line to stay alive.

Go to the Save & Exit tab, select Save Profiles & Exit, and let Windows boot normally. Step 2: Install the Gigabyte Desktop Utilities

While the BIOS handles power delivery during shutdown, the Windows software profile acts as a driver that communicates with your device to request a higher fast-charging current (known as Gigabyte 3x USB Power).
