SaferSurf is an internet security and anonymity service developed by the German software company Nutzwerk (and later managed by PentumLab GmbH), based in Leipzig.

Instead of being a renaming of Delphish, SaferSurf and Delphish were actually two distinct security products created by the same development team. While Delphish was an early, specialized anti-phishing tool, its underlying security technology was eventually absorbed into SaferSurf’s larger, server-side ecosystem. 🛡️ Delphish: The Anti-Phishing Extension

Released as freeware in the mid-2000s, Delphish (a play on “Delete Phishing”) was designed to tackle email fraud.

The Interface: It integrated directly as a custom toolbar inside email clients like Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Mozilla Thunderbird.

The Technology: It analyzed suspicious emails in a two-step process using signature-based and heuristic analysis.

User Empowerment: Instead of just silently blocking mail, Delphish explicitly showed users the hidden links, the geolocation, and the WHOIS data of the sender’s domain, training users to spot phishing attempts themselves. 🌐 SaferSurf: The Web and Email Anonymizer SaferSurf – Wikipédia
